Doubling Down on What Feels Good

What’s bringing me the most joy and stoke lately?

  • In person conversations

  • Work meetings with the camera on

  • Time each day for deep reflection

  • Cutting my to-do list down

  • Being the first to leave a party.

  • Warm showers before bed each night. Followed up by some serious bookworm time.

  • Offloading the things that don’t bring me joy.

This is the short list but part of a much bigger goal- to enjoy my days whether it be devoted to family life, work responsibilities or what have you. It’s a lofty goal but worth striving for.

This started after a morning of deep contemplation in the gym sauna (where I spend most mornings after school drop off). I thought seriously about which moments in my day light me up the most. What experiences bring me the most joy and excitement?

I made a list of categories- Home, Life, Career (yes I bring a pen and notebook into the sauna).

For career something became super clear- I am the most stoked when connecting with my small business clients and increasing my services for them. To add, when they refer me to another San Diego small business, I am even more overjoyed. You see- there is something really lovely about knowing the work your doing helps another in an important way. To add- I am happy to work with small businesses outside of California but these small businesses were my launchpad when I first started working in digital many years ago. They believed in me and I in them and we all grew and continue to grow together.

Why is this important?

For me specifically, it helps me reset where I am focusing my time and more importantly, where I should be doubling down. So if it’s so clear that working with small businesses feels so good, then why not double down on that type of work? It’s that simple.

How this may be helpful to you

If this resonates with you, perhaps it will be helpful to take a bit of time each week to just write things out. What feels good and what doesn’t in all categories of your life. You don’t have to fix everything all at once and you may realize you are doing super well in many categories (amazing!). Yet some of you may discover that little pockets of happiness already exist in the periphery and maybe just need a bit more of your engagement. And if you happen to identify some paths or places that you know already light you up and make you feel really good, then go there and often.
